Off The Grid and Environmentally Friendly
We have a solar power system that provides us with all the electricity that we need. It powers a 110V inverter which in turn gives us lighting (just like in a conventional house) to read by at night. The system also provides 12V power for our water pump and two-way VHF radio. The lodge also makes good use of clean burning propane; there is a cozy gas fireplace to keep us warm if it gets cold in the evenings. There is also a gas fridge and to keep our meal ingredients cool and very fresh. This means that the meals prepared by your guides on the gas range are always delicious. Not only that, because our stove has an oven we have the ability to make some other yummy treats!
We do have a pressure water system at the lodge. The solar system powers a pressure pump, so we do have on demand water at the lodge. The water that we use is rainwater collected from the roof and stored in 55 gallon barrels. Although the rainwater has proven safe to drink, we still prefer to transport drinking water and supplies in with the group. This way you can be assured of 100% safe water to drink and fresh ingredients in all of our meals. The kitchen contains everything we will need to prepare and serve scrumptious meals. We even have a barbeque under the covered deck!
The lodge also has washroom facilities, an outdoor shower (with hot water) and a good library of books that pertain to the area. There are also some board games, cards etc. for added evening entertainment. And the fishing off the deck is fun and sometimes quite fruitful. We caught a 35 lb. halibut off the deck in 2003! |
