Pondering's from the Kayak

Hi and welcome to the early spring edition of WeGo Kayaking's Adventure Island Newsletter.

Well spring is in the air again, the flowers and trees are starting to bud and the frogs around our house are providing us with the nightly entertainment of their 'frog symphony.'

We have done another recent web update and added some exciting features including streaming video. As the video is pretty new to us, please let us know if you experience any problems so that we can have a look and rectify any bugs in the system. We have also improved each of the tour pages adding the 'reservation desk,' a one stop place to get all of the booking and pricing information you need to plan your kayaking tour. We welcome any feedback, so if you see something that you think would be an improvement, just send us an email, thanks!

We are busy preparing for the season; organizing gear and getting the guides prepared for what is shaping up to be another busy season. Many of our past guests are returning for another adventure and we have a lot of new people signing up for their first WeGo Kayaking Expedition. Many of our experienced guests are returning for another WeGo Kayaking Expedition. Rosie and Margaret are back with us this year to experience one of our new Expedition Series tours to Nootka Sound. It is going to be a lot of fun.

All of our trips are starting to fill in, so if you are considering joining us for a kayak adventure this summer we encourage you to call and check availability soon. For anyone that may not be aware, we do offer an instant 10% discount for our returning guests!

Auctionmart is back on again; a great way to have some fun and potentially save some money bidding for your adventure. Read on for more info.

Give us a call at 1.800.434.9346 if you would like more information or to check trip availability. We are always happy to get your calls or emails and will do our best to help you plan an unforgettable holiday......

Cheers,

Brian, Ann and the WeGo Crew.

Streaming Kayak Video

Watch Video of our Kayaking Expeditions

We have just added streaming video to our the WeGo Kayaking website. Located on the home page there is a control panel that offers the video in a variety of file sizes - small, medium and large. There are two platforms in which the video can be viewed, Windows Media Player and Quicktime. Your choice of file size (small, medium, large) depends on the type of internet connection that you have; either dial up or high speed. There are also links to download both of the players that you will need to watch the video if you don't already have them installed on your computer. If you have a high speed connection I recommend the Windows Media Format - Large for the best clarity. It is a large file so it will take about 30 seconds to start playing depending on how high tech your computer is. If you have any problems with the video, please email us at info@wegokayaking.com and we can send you a copy on a cd.

A quick explanation of how streaming video works.

Basically, when you click on the link your computer will start to load the file. Streaming means that once your computer has loaded some of the video it will start playing what it has while it loads the rest of the file. The files DO NOT REMAIN ON YOUR COMPUTER. When you close the window it stops the loading and that removes the file. The idea is that your computer doesn't have to wait to load the entire file before it can start playing the video.

Nature News - The Arbutus Tree

Learn About Arbutus Trees

"Arbutus trees have the ability to survive the harshest climates close to the sea: wet and windy with snow in the winter and dry parched in the hot coastal summers of the Pacific Northwest. They can grow on bluffs where there is very little soil and survive droughts in several ways."

New Kayaks For 2005

For 2005 we are trying a new line of kayaks from Extreme Interface, a Vancouver Island based kayak manufacturer. We are really excited about their products and look forward to hearing your feedback once you have tried these well designed kayaks.

Extreme Interface was formed in 1991 to design and manufacture products that would allow humans to "interface and leave no trace" in the natural environment. Kayaks and paddles enable users to move, silently and pollution-free, to some of the most remote places on earth.

Extreme Interface offers an elegant product line from fully outfitted touring kayaks to beautifully hand-crafted paddles, to whitewater kayaks and play boats; each with its own unique, uncompromising design.

For 2005, we are adding several new kayaks and specialty craft to our product lineup, expanding manufacturing and adopting new thermal forming technology for kayaks up to 20’ in length. We are re-branding our touring kayaks as lightspeed kayaks, retaining "Extreme Interface" branding for our specialty boats including the 11' "Onda", and a high performance 9' "sit-on-top" Surfwing, "Eclipse", and a 9'6" recreational yak, "Enigma". We also market an 11' "surfshoe" kayak, the Guru. (See "Surf & Whitewater Kayaks").
