Hi and welcome to the fall 2004 edition of Adventure Island.

Looking Back
We had a great summer and on behalf of Ann, myself and the guides, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came and spent some time with us this season. All of us at WeGo Kayaking had a lot of fun this summer and sincerely enjoyed meeting all of you. Thank you.

Looking Forward
We have some exciting new company initiatives that we have put into place for 2005 to make our trips even better, not to mention some new trips that we have been diligently working on at WeGo Kayaking for 2005. These are some of the highlights for next season;

Website
We have made some great changes to the website to make it easier to navigate.

Each trip now has its own printable trip summary that provides a descriptive snapshot of the the trip including the tour itinerary and some other key facts. Just look for the button that says trip summary and that is where you will find a PDF printable document. You will need Adobe Acrobat loaded on your computer for the trip summaries.

We have also added a feedback form to make it easier for you to submite your post trip comments. The form only takes about a minute to complete. If you travled with us in 2004 and would like to submit your feedback we'd love to hear from you, click here to go to the form.

More Departure Dates
 We have added a ton of new departure dates and WeGo Kayaking now has the most departure dates in the best locations on Vancouver Island. Be it Johnstone Strait, Clayoquot Sound, the Gulf Islands or one of our Expedition Series tours, we are sure to have a date that fits with your schedule. Please check our schedule to check out all of your options.

Your vacation time is important to you, that's important to us! We understand that it takes a lot of time to make your travel plans, get time off work and make other arrangements to go on your vacation. Who needs a phone call at the last minute saying 'sorry your trip has been cancelled due to insufficient registration.' We also realize that some people are looking for a group kayaking experience, not to worry. Our friendly office staff will contact you a minimum of 20 days prior to departure to let you know if we have less than 4 people registered, and we will be happy to transfer you to another trip at *no charge if that is what you would like to do. Because we have the most departure dates in the industry, there is always another option close by your planned dates. Monthly Trip Feature
Expedition Series - Nootka Island's Wild West Coast

Our Expeditions Series of trips is designed for adventurous souls that are looking for an experience outside of our other regularly scheduled trips. Each year we select a couple of unique destinations to go and explore. Some of these expeditions are designed for kayakers with previous kayaking experience; others are open to all skill levels. Other than the start and finish points, our Expeditions do not follow a set itinerary, we allow the tides and weather to assist us in our plans for the day. If you have a truly open mind for adventure and exploration, then our Expeditions Series of trip are for you!

Our Nootka Island Wild Coast Expedition starts in Gold River when we board the coastal freighter Uchuck for a scenic voyage to the Nuchatlitz Archipelago where we will be ‘wet launched' by crane off the deck of this historic vessel. From here we spend the next 7 days exploring the open west coast as we make our way to birthplace of British Columbia, the small community of Yuquot, also known as Friendly Cove.

Pacific White Sided Dolphins

 

In every issue of the Adventure Island newsletter we feature the amazing animals that you may see while on one of our exciting kayaking expeditions. This edition we are featuring Pacific White Sided Dolphins.

Pacific White-Sided Dolphin's ( Lagenorhynchus obliquidens ) are a playful marine mammal that we often observe while we travel in and around the Johnstone Strait area. Often confused with other small cetacean species such as the Dall's porpoise and common Dolphin, the Pacific White Sided dolphin can be identified by their very distinct ‘V' shaped dorsal cape and recognizable black and white patterned body. Their beak is dark and there is a black ring around the eyes. The Pacific White sided Dolphin reaches a length of 1.7 – 2.4 m (5.5 – 7.9 ft.) and a weight of 85 – 150 kg (187 – 550 lbs).
