Hello Ho Ho, Welcome to the Christmas edition of the Adventure Island Newsletter. I have finally found a good mailer program so that we can start doing regular mailings. Whew....it took a while. Anyhow, things on the island are going great. The weather has been quite good, a nice mixture of sun, rain and a bit of snow thrown in here and there for good measure. Because it has been so long since we sent out an update, I have basically done just an overview of the most recent things that have been happening here at WeGo Kayaking. I am excited to announce a new trip for 2004 - Orcas, Grizzlies and Ancient Villages - our six day trip that features the best of what Vancouver Island has to offer! For those of you that adventured with Stacy and/or Celeste last year, they are on their way to Costa Rica even as I speak to do some guiding for the winter....lucky ladies! Ann & I have been mostly staying close to home answering emails and such. It has been very busy with a large number of people making inquiries about our 2004 trips and we are starting to book up for next year. For New Years we are planning some time at the lodge up in the Straits. I was there about three weeks ago and surprisingly the A30 Orcas were still around (lots of salmon to munch!). I also witnessed a massive group of dolphins, at least 200+ cruising up the strait. It was nice to get a little time away, I did some clamming and prawning and it made for a couple of really great dinners when I got home to Ann. Our New Years plan includes more of the same.mmmmmm.......freeeesh prawns. In closing I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. For those of you that have traveled with us in the past we thank you for your business, we enjoyed meeting each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you again in the near future for another adventure. And for those that are considering traveling with us this year or maybe in the coming years, we look forward to meeting you and showing you around our amazing adventure island. Cheers, Brian, Ann and the WeGo Crew.
The Great Adventure television show featured our Wild Orcas & Ancient Villages (Gala Kas La lodge) expedition on their half hour television program this past October. The show highlighted some tremendous footage of paddling with the Orcas of Johnstone Strait from our private floating eco-lodge .In addition, there was also footage of Tom Sewid, the native guardian of Mamallilaculla, giving a narrative on the native culture of the region. I have been told that it may air again so check with your local listings to see what channel The Fine Living channel airs on in the USA. For Canadian residents it is available on Satellite.
We are thrilled to announce an exciting new expedition in the Johnstone Strait area for 2004. From the comfort of our private floating eco-lodge, Gala Kas La, we’ll kayak with the whales, boat up a sheltered inlet to view grizzly bears, and sample the traditional ways of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. This tour concludes with a stay in the village of Alert Bay, at the Sun Spirit Guesthouse, to experience Alert Bay’s thriving First Nations culture. Click here for more info.
In 2004 we will again be offering our full schedule of day tours from our shop in Cowichan Bay, just north of Victoria. Our Winery Kayaking Tour to Cherry Point vineyards, the only such trip in North America, has become incredibly popular over the last two seasons. We offer package tours with the Oceanfront Grand Resort in Cowichan Bay (it’s only a 5 minute walk from our shop). If you haven’t got time to do a multi day trip, these day tours that range from 2 hours to a full day are a great way to relax your mind, body and soul! Sign up for our Full Moon tour and let the twinkling lights of the harbour guide you as you mysteriously glide about the bay.
On all of our Gala Kas La Lodge & Wild Orca Discovery camping expeditions;
if your group sees no whales, we'll give you another trip without charge.
Our local area knowledge allows us to offer this guarantee on both of
our four day adventures.
We have just completed an extensive update on the WeGo Kayaking website. It is much easier to navigate and there is a ton of new information on everything from whales to the hot springs, booking assistance, travel planning and so much more… Take some time to have a surf through; we think you will be very happy with all the new pages and the content. As always, we would like to hear your thoughts. Please email us if there is something you feel would be helpful or just to give us some feedback….we want to hear from you. While you're exploring, sign up for the Adventure Island newsletter.
A new initiative we are embarking on for 2004 is our Guide’s Field Journals. From the What’s New @ WeGo page you will have access to our guide's trip reports throughout the kayaking season. The Guide’s Field Journals are a great way to stay up on what’s happening on all of our trips; the wildlife we see, the new friends we make along the way and all of the other interesting things that happen while on a WeGo Kayaking expedition. 2004 Schedule
Our 2004 mailout Brochure is ready for you. As always, you'll be able to order our brochure by mail or download it from our website. Our 2004 PDF brochure will be ready by the end of 2003 and in the meantime we welcome you to download our 2003 PDF Brochure from the website. For 2004 we will be downsizing the PDF brochure to make it easier to download and print off. Same great info, just in a more compact format.
