Uncooperative weather, and forces beyond our control can cause delays and/or changes to the itinerary. Day 1: We will meet in Duncan at 7:30 a.m. From there we will travel to Cedar by the Sea, our launch point. At the launch site our guides will discuss sea kayak safety principles and then we will depart for historical Pirates Cove on DeCourcey Island and enjoy a delicious salmon dinner.


Accommodation: Camping.
Included Meals: Lunch, dinner and snacks.


Day 2: After an early breakfast we will pack our kayaks for a day trip to the sandy beach of Blackberry Point, on Valdes Island.


Accommodation: Camping.
Included Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.


Day 3: We will rise to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a yummy breakfast. After breaking camp we will take a leisurely paddle back up the coastline to our launch at Cedar, enjoying lunch along the way. We will arrive back at the launch at approximately 1:30, allowing sufficient time for connections and travel.

Vargas Island Voyager Expedition

Sea Kayak British Columbia We will spend four breathtaking days kayaking, exploring, feasting and learning about this unique area that was designated a biosphere reserve in 2000. We will have the opportunity to visit the sandy expanses of the outer beaches, explore intertidal zones filled with astonishing sea creatures and visit remarkable Meares Island; home of the Big Tree Trail.

Day 1: This trip begins from Duncan at 6:00 am. We do make stops along the way to pick up additional guests. Heading north, as we leave most of the population of Vancouver Island behind us, the highway shrinks to a curving passage around steep hills and mountains, and waterfalls can be seen from the highway. After a scenic drive, we will arrive at the friendly west coast community of Tofino at 12:30. We will launch on our adventure from the friendly West Coast village of Tofino at the kayak launch site. Prior to our departure we will discuss kayaking safety principles and boat packing.

Day 2: An early breakfast and hot coffee before setting off for some morning paddling along the inside coast of Vargas Island. We will lunch on one of the beautiful sandy beaches, taking time to capture photographs of the abundant wildlife and the awe inspiring open Pacific.

Day 3: We will visit Meares Island (site of the largest protest in Canadian history) to hike among the Ancient Cedars of the Big Tree Trail.

Day 4: After a leisurely breakfast we will break camp and commence our paddle back to the place it all began, the village of Tofino.

Pacific Orca Lodge Expedition

Sea Kayak British Columbia Located on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, the Johnstone Strait area is home to the largest resident Orca (killer whale) population in the world.

Day 0: This is the day you need to arrive in the town of Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. Our friendly guides will meet you this evening to answer any questions you may have. This is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow travelers and the guides. You can either fly or drive to Port McNeill. If you are unsure, please call our office (1.800.434.9346) and we will happily provide you with all of the options that are available to you.

Included Meals: None.

Day 1: We will leave from Port McNeill via water taxi in the morning and be delivered to the Wego Kayaking, Pacific Orca Lodge. After a brief orientation and lunch we will start exploring this amazing area by kayak. The lodge is located in an area where the coastline is made up of numerous small bays and islets as well as prime wildlife viewing, which make for excellent kayaking excursions.

Accommodation: Lodge.

Day 2: We will rise early for breakfast. We will then have the opportunity to go for a paddle. The day will be spent exploring the area by kayak. The location of the lodge is in prime wildlife viewing territory, home to Orca, Humpback and Minke whales, harbour and Dall’s porpoises, seals and otters. Black bears are also common in this area and they can often be seen foraging the shoreline in search of food.

Day 3: Today we will rise early and embark on our journey up Knight Inlet to Glendale Cove for Grizzly Bear viewing. We will return to the lodge in the late afternoon for a hearty dinner and for some conversation about the days activities and sightings.

Day 4: After an early rise we will enjoy breakfast and some hot, fresh coffee. After breakfast we will again slip into our kayaks for another day of exploring the area and viewing the abundant wildlife of the Inside Passage.

Day 5: After breakfast we will board an early morning water taxi trip back to Port McNeill. When we arrive back in town we will board the whale watching vessel Naiad Explorer for an interpretive tour focused on whale viewing. You will learn the latest information about the killer whales and be able to listen in on the whales’ vocalizations with the on-board hydrophone (underwater microphone). This is an excellent opportunity to take photographs from a very stable vessel!

Wild Orca Discovery Base Camping Expedition

Sea Kayak British Columbia On our Wild Orca Discovery expedition we offer a comfortable base camping experience at our Maggie Point outpost camp; the only base camp within the islands of the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park, a world-renowned area for its rich native culture and spectacular kayaking.

Day 0: This is the day you need to arrive in the town of Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. Our friendly guides will meet you this evening to answer any questions you may have. This is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow travelers and the guides. You can either fly or drive to Port McNeill. If you are unsure, please call our office (1.800.434.9346) and we will happily provide you with all of the options that are available to you.

Included Meals: None.

Day 1: We will leave from Port McNeill via water taxi in the morning and be delivered to our first base camp. After lunch and a camp and kayak orientation, we will head off to do some kayaking. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring the area by kayak and observing the abundant wildlife that inhabits the area. Our camps are situated in areas inhabited by Orcas, Minke and Humpback whales as well as eagles, harbour and Dall’s porpoises, Pacific White Sided dolphins, seals and otters.

Accommodation: Camping.
Included Meals: Lunch, dinner and snacks.

Day 2: Today our route will be planned to experience the numerous islands and inlets as we explore the Inside Passage. Our daily route is designed to offer the best chances for wildlife viewing and whale watching. Our guides will also take time to share information on intertidal zones and the amazing sea creatures that exist within them as we explore the low tide beaches of the area.

Accommodation: Camping.
Included Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

Days 3: After an early rise and hearty breakfast we will move our gear to the beach where it will be collected by our camp mangers and moved to our new camp. From there the remainder of the day will be spent exploring the Inside Passage and wildlife viewing as we paddle our way to the next base camp.

Accommodation: Camping.

Day 4: Having arrived at our new camp there is many new areas to explore. After breakfast we enter our kayaks and set off for another exciting day of adventure in our new surroundings. The day will be spent peacefully kayaking throughout the area encountering whales and the other wildlife that we come across.

Day 5: The day will be spent viewing whales and wildlife in it's natural environment as well as exploring the coastlines of the Inside Passage. We will board our water taxi and return to Port McNeill in the afternoon.

Broughton Archipelago Expedition

Sea Kayak British Columbia Our Broughton Expedition takes place in one of the finest kayaking destinations in the world! Situated off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, the Broughton Archipelago with it’s maze of islands and hidden passages offers paddling beyond compare! Home to an abundance of marine mammals, sightings of which are guaranteed. This area is home to one of the largest Orca (killer whale) populations in the world, and along with them are substantial populations of Humpback and Minke Whales. The Broughton is also rich with natural predators (black bears, bald eagles, wolves, sea otters and more…) creating abundant wildlife and photographic opportunities.

Day 0: Your Broughton Expedition begins with a “Day 0”. Day 0 is meant for traveling to Vancouver island on the Sunday before the start of the expedition. Upon your arrival in Port McNeill, we will meet at the Haida Way Inn at 19:00 hrs to join your fellow travelers and guides, and discuss the upcoming expedition.

Day 1: This expedition commences from Port McNeill in the morning when you board our high-speed water taxi for a scenic voyage through the emerald green waters of the Inside Passage. After settling into our campsite the guides will conduct a kayak safety lesson and then we will venture out to explore our surroundings.

Day 2: Today our route is planned to experience the numerous islands and inlets as we explore the Inside Passage. Our daily route is designed to offer the best chances for wildlife viewing and whale watching. Our guides will also take time to share information on inter-tidal zones and the amazing sea creatures that exist within them as we explore the low tide beaches of the area. Letting the ever-present tides and currents assist us on our journey, we will travel in our kayaks enjoying the natural splendor of this magical area. Orcas are prevalent here, so we will no doubt spend time watching these amazing creature’s feed and socialize.

Days 3-5: Days three to five we venture deeper into the archipelago, exploring the rugged west coast environment. We will soak in the solitude of this remote area as we encounter the abundant wildlife while exploring by kayak and occasionally on foot. When we find a prime camp location expect to stay 2 nights. Heath Bay, Crib Island, The Fox Group are among our camp destinations.

Day 6: Today after another hearty breakfast we break camp to travel to our final and one of our favourite campsite locations - The Burdwood Group of Islands. We will also have plenty of time to cruise for other wildlife, explore the inter-tidal zone for critters and capture photographs.

Day 7: After another hearty breakfast, we will begin our last paddle. After exploring the Islets of the Burdwoods we return to camp for our final lunch and preparation for our water taxi pick up at 15:00 hrs to return to Port McNeill.
