Kayak in the Gulf Islands with
WeGo Kayaking Expeditions |

" I had so much fun this past weekend kayaking in the Southern Gulf Islands! Thank you for the experience and I will come again and tell friends too. The guide was knowledgeable, safety conscience, and candid. The food was x-cellent, the paddling and singing were x-cellent, the phosphorescence was like something out of Disneyland and the gear was bomber!"
Best Regards,
Carol Singer
About The Gulf Islands
 |
The Gulf Islands are a unique archipelago of Mediterranean like islands located on the south east coast of Vancouver Island in the Strait of Georgia between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island. The Gulf Islands are made up of over 200 Gulf Islands in total within which there are six main islands, Gabriola, Salt Spring, Galiano, Pender, Mayne and Saturna. Intricate honeycombed sandstone cliffs, clamshell beaches and spectacular bird watching (bald eagles, oyster catchers, turkey vultures and cormorants, just to name a few) are just some of the amazing characteristics this area has to offer.

DeCourcey Island, one of the better-known local islands, is swathed in history with tales of the Aquarian Foundation, buried gold and Brother XII's whip wielding consort Madame Zee. Some people still believe that Brother XII’s gold is still buried here!
The Gulf Islands are also home to the resident J, K and L Orca (killer whale) pods. Currently there are approximately 85 whales in the southern resident killer whale population. When the research started on these whales in 1976 there were 71 whales in total, that number peaked at 99 killer whales in 1995 and from then on their number decreased until 2001 at which time it appears as though there have maintained their numbers. The whales range from the open west coast of Vancouver island down to Puget Sound in Washington State and up the inside waters of the Strait of Georgia to mid Vancouver Island.
The islands are well known for their unique charm and qualities:
|
the mild climate; they receive less than 30 inches of rain annually. |
|
the natural beauty; rocky shorelines intermingled with carved sandstone and warm sandy beaches. |
|
The many local artisans and local craft markets. |
The Gulf Islands archipelagos rival the West Coast for unique scenery, aboriginal history and abundant wildlife; they should not be overlooked as a kayaking adventure destination.
