WeGo kayaking Expeditions, located on Vancouver Island, is a small family run kayaking business owned by Abert and Kelly Rogalinski. Our company was born out of a passion for taking enthusiastic people to places less traveled, and watching the growth and enjoyment that was a result of the amazing experiences these people had in the great outdoors. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to make coastal British Columbia not only our home, but also a place where we can combine our immense enjoyment of people and the outdoors in a fun filled work environment. |
To Our Customers
Of course none of this would mean anything without you, our clients. Your spirit of adventure and willingness to laugh and have fun is what makes it all worthwhile. To you adventurous souls, past, present and future, thank-you!
This is our invitation to you. Come and travel with us as we share new experiences, meet new friends, enjoy fabulous meals and encounter all that British Columbia has to offer from an awe-inspiring point of view......the kayak!

Our Environmental Ethos

We take our commitment to environmental responsibility very seriously. At WeGo Kayaking we believe that everything we do has the potential to impact our world. Our goal is to not only provide kayaking tours that allow our guests the opportunity to form an intimate bond with Vancouver Island, but to do so through sustainable sea kayaking programs that promote environmental awareness and safety.
At WeGo Kayaking we strive to reduce, reuse and recycle in all aspects of the operation of our business, and to reduce or eliminate the consumption of non-renewable resources whenever possible. Due to the shear size of Vancouver Island it is a necessity to used motorized vehicles; we make every effort to be as efficient as possible when using any fossil fuel burning means of conveyance be it van or water taxi. Our office supplies are all made from recycled materials and all resources used on our kayaking tours are brought back and recycled at the end of our kayaking tours.
In the light of conservation and sustainability, our operations for the 2008 season (and beyond) will see us install new water conservation features so we can make use of the seasonal rainfall which falls on our camps to supply water for washing and cleaning. This will reduce the amount water we need to bring out to camps which will contribute nicely to reducing the amount of weight the water taxi has to carry onboard when supplying our locations. These installments will also increase our level of self sufficiency and enhance our provision of refreshing showers for guests!
Our base camp operations will also benefit from new recycling systems. We have identified that our weekly menu, no matter how many guests, produces a level of recyclable materials which can be managed with maximum efficiency. We intend to collect, wash, separate and store our garbage with the use of new separation containers. By doing so we can effectively contribute to the local recycling initiatives and collection stations.
We intend to make every effort possible to protect the areas we work in by steamlining our operations to minimise our impacts. We are involved in a vicious circle when supplying services in ecologically sensitive areas with a high profile, as the increase in popularity and every step made by every visitor makes a new footprint.
It is with great pride that we endeavour to sustain our locations in a eco-friendly manner whilst supplying our guests with the best of the Pacific wilderness.

Community

Our community rocks! We are very proud of our community and make every effort to use local producers and suppliers. We support those in our community by purchasing and hiring locally whenever possible. We are active supporters of many charitable organizations throughout BC to which we have made donations.

First Nations

Our company is dedicated to supporting our local First Nations through open dialogue, respect of First Nation culture, consultation and by hiring First Nations to work with us. Our goal is expose our customers to the rich and unique history of the local First Nations by having our guests join tours organized and operated by the First Nations people whenever possible. We continue to remain in contact with local First Nations, offering input to their consultants as well as to them directly when requested. All of our campsites have undergone a referral process with local First Nations involvement.
Yukusam Heritage Society
WeGo Kayaking, with great interest, has attended the meetings of the Yukusam Heritage Society in regard to the head lease agreement they have negotiated with the BC provincial government. The head lease agreement gives the Yukusam (an association of Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwak'wala speaking) First Nations bands that exist in the Johnstone Strait area) sole control over the care, upkeep and administration of Hanson Island. The island, used by the First Nations for centuries, is home to hundreds of culturally modified trees and Native village sites. We are very supportive of the efforts of all the First Nations involved in that agreement. Upon completion of their management planning we are looking forward to working even more closely with the Yukusam. As soon as they have organized the tour component of their planning process we intend to include their cultural tours as part of our sea kayaking tour program.
If you have any questions or concerns in regard to our dealings with First Nations, we encourage you to contact us at info@wegokayaking.com or call 1.800.434.9346.

In The Field

We live in a truly unspoiled area; known for its natural beauty, clean air and pristine waterways. As stewards of the land our goal of conservation is achieved by following the principles of low impact camping and environmental responsibility while we are on our kayaking tours. We dissuade the use of soap in freshwater streams and lakes, deal with human waste in the most appropriate manner and endeavor to lessen our impact by using established camps and trail networks. Our objective is to share space with wildlife without impacting its natural behavior. This is done by preventing curious animals from coming into contact with our food by storing it in an appropriate manner and by ensuring that we always maintain a healthy distance while we are in the company of these treasured animals.

Our Employees

Our employees are respected and valued members of our WeGo Kayaking team. They are all hired and employed by WeGo Kayaking; we do not use contractors to fill our staff positions. By hiring in this way we are compliant to all government regulations and labour laws both federally and provincially. Our guides are part of our team here at WeGo kayaking and their valuable input helps improve our kayaking tours and shape our policies and procedures year after year. Our kayaking guides and office staff are paid wages based on industry standard; in fact, we value our staff and their hard work so highly most earn above industry standard wages.
